Jennifer Hartman, Nurse Practitioner

i there, my name is Jennifer Hartman. I am a certified pediatric nurse practitioner new to the team at Next Generation Pediatrics. I have over 22 years of experience in pediatric primary care. I spent over 20 years in a large practice in the city of Chicago affiliated with Lurie and then practiced for a little over a year in a concierge pediatric practice. I am thrilled to continue to help heal children and their families in the suburb of South Elgin. I live in the city of Chicago in Lincoln Park with my husband Ken and my three children. My 19 year old daughter, Mia is a Xavier University student, Kenny is my 18 year old son who just graduated from St. Ignatius and will also attend Xavier University in the fall, and I have a sixth grader Colin who is a student at St. Josaphat School in Lincoln Park. I became interested in medical care from a very young age assembling human plastic models and tirelessly coloring medical books. What helped cement my career choice was being diagnosed with bone cancer in my left lower leg when I was 16 years old. Through my 2 + years of surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and hospital stays my medical team (physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and assistants) saved my life as I was only given a 20% chance to live given the aggressive nature of my cancer. I now cherish being a part of the medical community that healed me. I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio with my parents and 4 siblings. I attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana for my undergraduate degree majoring in science. I then attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland for my master’s degree and residency as a pediatric nurse practitioner. I met my husband at Notre Dame and I moved to Chicago to be closer to him after graduation. In my free time I like to spend quality time with my children and dog (a goldendoodle Bailey), cook, garden, and exercise. I love cycling on the lakefront and spinning in my house (Show me your support fellow Peloton lovers!). I believe that primary care pediatrics is all about establishing a medical home for families. I absolutely love and am very passionate about the role I play in making parents an integral part of the healthcare team. I will guide but also support parents in their decision making about their children’s development and wellness. I am excited to begin this next chapter of my life with you and your family.
